Payment is due at the time services are rendered. Payment may be made during your session in the form of cash or check. An invoice which can be filed with your insurance company for reimbursement can be provided to you at each session.
While I do not file your insurance claims for you, I am happy to assist you with any information you need. The invoice you receive contains all the information needed to submit your claim to your insurance company. Please keep in mind that your health insurance is a contract between you, your employer, and your insurance company. I am not a party to that contract and, therefore, I am not responsible for the disposition of any claims made by you to your insurance company. It is your responsibility to know your mental health benefits under your policy.
Also, many individuals use their HSA (Health Savings Account) to pay for out of network provider services.
Things to consider before using insurance to cover mental health treatment
The idea of beginning to see a therapist can be overwhelming at a time that already feels difficult enough. While many people first consider using insurance to cover mental health treatment, there are a few things to consider when going through your insurance provider. Many people do not know that insurance companies often cover mental health services differently than they cover other medical services. For example, did you know that many companies give the option to choose a mental health provider outside of your network? Finding out what is and is not covered and what information your insurance company needs can be intimidating and confusing. The following are a few questions informed consumers may want to ask before seeking coverage or reimbursement for therapy.
Start by calling the customer service number on your insurance card and make sure you are directed to someone who can answer questions about mental health services
$150.00 per 45-minute session
$250.00 per 90-minute session
$295.00 per 120-minute session
The 90 and the 120 minute sessions represent a significant savings over the regular 45 minute rate.
Questions to ask about mental health coverage
What is my mental health coverage under my plan?Often insurance companies cover a percentage of what they call their Usual Customary Rate (UCR) for therapy. Most will direct you to in network providers. These are providers who have agreed to accept the UCR of your insurance, with you paying part of the deductable. For example many companies say they cover 80% for sessions 1-5, 60% for sessions 6-20 and 50% for sessions 21 and above. This means that they cover that percentage for their UCR (usually somewhere between $75-95 for a 45 minute session) and you will have a co-pay that is a percentage of that number.
What are my out-of-network benefits? Many companies offer in network and out of network benefits for mental health practitioners even if it is not offered for medical doctors.
. Out of network providers may be covered at different rates from in network providers.
Do I have a deductible? Some companies have a mental health deductible that is separate from other deductibles and the mental health deductible may be much higher than others.
When does my coverage year begin? Some insurance companies begin coverage at the beginning of the calendar year, some at the beginning of the fiscal year, and some from the anniversary of the first date that you began coverage with them.
